The Annual Conference of the Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Association and of the Teaching Business and Human Rights Forum 

2026 Annual Conference

The 2026 GBHRSA Conference will be held in Curitiba, Brazil, on May 21-22, 2026, in partnership with the Teaching Business and Human Rights Forum.

This conference will mark the 10th anniversary of the founding of the GBHRSA and the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Teaching Forum. Please be on the lookout for a call for papers with an abstract submission deadline in November 2025.

2024 Annual Conference

The 2024 Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Conference took place on 12–13 September at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. We were thrilled to gather scholars from around the world for two days of vibrant discussion, critical reflection, and knowledge exchange.

This year’s conference featured exciting presentations from both established and emerging voices in the field, sparking insightful debates and new research directions. We thank everyone who contributed to making this event a success — especially our engaged and thoughtful audience!

2023 Annual Conference

The 2023 Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Conference took place on 23-24 March  at University of Monterrey  in Mexico. Bringing together researchers and practitioners from across the globe to share their work and engage in critical dialogue.

Hosted with generous support from our local partners, the conference created space for rich interdisciplinary exchange on pressing issues at the intersection of business, power, and human rights. The presentations and discussions reflected the depth and diversity of our field — and the passion of our growing community.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us in Monterrey and helped make the conference a memorable and impactful gathering.

2017 Annual Conference

The second Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Conference was held on 15–16 September 2017 at Santa Clara University in California. Building on the success of the inaugural meeting, the 2017 conference deepened the scholarly exchange and strengthened the ties within our growing academic community.

Participants from around the world gathered to present innovative research, share critical perspectives, and engage in rich interdisciplinary discussions. The Santa Clara conference marked an important moment in consolidating a global network of scholars dedicated to advancing human rights in business practice and policy.

We are grateful to Santa Clara University for their generous hosting and to all who contributed to making this event a meaningful step forward for the field.

2016 First Annual Conference

The inaugural Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Conference was held on 16-17 September 2016 at the University of Washington, Seattle. This first gathering marked an important step in building a dedicated space for scholarly exchange in the field of business and human rights.

Scholars from diverse disciplines came together to present cutting-edge research, explore emerging challenges, and lay the groundwork for a collaborative academic community. The energy and engagement at Seattle set the tone for the conferences that followed — rooted in critical thinking, open dialogue, and shared commitment to advancing human rights in business contexts.
